Facebook Plans To Mitigate "Conversation Therapy"

Social media giant company facebook says    ban on conversation therapy to strike soon with the aim of "Right Balance" on speech and safety.


In response to activists groups, Instagram and parent company Facebook plan to ban information about "conversation therapy"
available for gays and lesbins - but have not fully define the terms.


A Facebook representatives said the company
seeks the "right balance between enabling
freedom of expression while keeping people
safe" Conversation therapy has been pinpoint
for what proponents call 'sexual orientation change efforts' aims at minimizing or ending
a person's attraction to the same sex. It's generally defined as professional therapy sought by gays or lesbians to change their sexual orientation.


This is a global policy. The policy is still under development, but for now it will be applied to content that promotes conversation therapy
when we become aware of it, Facebook spokeswoman Stephanie Otway post on twitter.


Opponents say conversation therapy is discrimination, on the other hand supporters
embrace it to offer individuals a choice for help if they want it.

Facebook is debating on how to define the terms before implementing the new policy
Otway said. The proposal is to block positive reviews or testimonials about counselors and organizations that specialize on the field CNN
report.

Instagram already had ban ads for conversation therapy, The big move comes after Instagram and Facebook specifically banned a British organization called Core Issues Trust.
